ONE.org: Girls Count
Girls Count
Bono’s foundation, ONE.org, wanted to get politicians to do something about the 130 million girls worldwide who are denied access to education. We decided to make that huge, faceless number a little more real. We asked the world to count each girl affected, from one to 130 million. And we shared each number counted with politicians asking them to back funding for girls' education.
The launch film:
We created a campaign website where people could choose a number and get counting. It attracted supporters from across the globe, bringing together an eclectic mix of people to fight for girls' education: from Nobel Peace Prize winners to muppets, business leaders to social media stars, and superheroes to everyday heroes of all ages.
We didn't quite count to 130 million, but we did push world leaders into increasing global education spending to at least $2.3 billion.
